WAA employs over 160 highly trained airport specialists. We work out of 5 different locations: Administration Building, Air Terminal Building, Powerhouse, Field Electrical Centre and the Combined Services Building.
Customer driven with our service quality program, we work closely with our local community and are committed to the environment. WAA supports the United Way, and sponsors the local community through our Showcase Manitoba program, which highlights Manitoba’s culture and community events throughout the airport, our corporate sponsorship program and community and government relations.
Airport Operations - Our Duty Managers ensure the necessary co-ordination of airport functions to allow for smooth operations 24 hours each day. Safety and emergency planning is part of our day to day operations. Emergency Response Service is provided on a 24 hour basis by WAA firefighters. Aircraft bridging, gate planning and the cleaning contract for the Air Terminal and Administration buildings are also the responsibility of this team.
Police and security - Coordinates policing and security services at WIA which includes security services such as fence line checks, airport pass system, data centre services and access control.
Automated Maintenance Management System run by a skilled team of professionals provides electrical, mechanical, baggage carousel maintenance (millwright), plumbing, heating and air conditioning (HVAC), and structural maintenance to our tenants. Our drafting services document our facility in detail.
Powerhouse - Provides power to the Air Terminal and Administration building, and operates boilers, chillers, cooling towers and pumps.
Air Terminal Building (ATB) services - Provides services to our tenants and general public, coordinates the barrier-free program, the Goldwing Ambassador volunteer program and airport tours.
Airfield Services - Airfield maintenance specialists and mechanics maintain and run graders, plows, sanders, blowers, trucks, loaders, tractors, 20 foot mowers, ERS equipment. They provide snow removal and ice control on runways, aprons and taxiways and for tenant properties and maintain backup power for aircraft instrument landing systems. They also maintain roads, signage, drainage and wildlife control.
Field Electrical Centre - This department maintains transformers, switch gear and breakers that power the airfield lighting system (guidance signs, runway and apron lighting) and maintains the power system for aircraft instrument landing.
We plan our future carefully through research and development. By creating detailed business plans and a long term master plan as our guides, we are prepared to meet the future needs of our valued customers. Also responsible for advertising, passenger route development, cargo development, land development and all other revenue generating activities.
Coordinates external and internal communications, public relations, and in-kind sponsorship, media relations, photo library and special events.
Among the many programs offered by the Administration & Human Resources department are office services, labour relations, payroll and benefits and training and development. These services are aimed directly at maintaining our highly trained and skilled employees here at WAA.
Parking & Ground Transportation provides first class customer service through our Economy and Premium parking services, valet services, as well as tenant and employee parking. The department also handles coordination of bus, taxi and limo services.
Accounting is responsible for accounts receivables/payables, collection of landing fees, terminal fees and parking fees. Legal services, business planning and the purchasing department (which coordinates purchases and contracts for all WAA) also fall under this department. Additional services include management of our state-of-the-art information systems, computer equipment, training and noise monitoring equipment.
